HEIC to JPG

Turn a HEIC photo into a JPEG or a PNG.

Runs in your browser. Your files are not uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Add HEIC or HEIF photos. iPhone pictures often use this format.
  2. Choose JPG or PNG, and a JPG quality.
  3. Convert. If a file holds more than one image, each one is saved.

The decoder is a separate library

HEIC is decoded with an unmodified build of libheif and libde265, running in a worker. Those libraries are LGPL. They are loaded as their own files, and the licence text is on the third-party licences page.

The photo is not uploaded. After conversion you can make a PDF with JPG to PDF.

If a photo will not open

Some HEIC files use a codec this build cannot read, or they are still downloading from iCloud as a placeholder. Open the photo in the Photos app so the full file is on the device, then try again. HEIC vs JPG explains what the format is and when a JPEG is the file to send.

Questions

Do you upload iPhone photos?

No. The HEIC file is decoded in your browser with WebAssembly. It is not sent to a server.

Can I get a PNG instead of a JPG?

Yes. Choose PNG before you convert. JPG is the better default for a camera photo.

Why is there a licence notice for this tool only?

The PDF and WebP libraries use permissive licences. libheif is LGPL, so it stays an unmodified separate file and the source offer is published with it.
